JampJ
Callen in Autoglass yesterday, and got a quote of over £400 for a new glass, and over £80 for a chip repair. I just want a spare, any ideas, not on insurance? Cheers John JFDI (Just F*****g Do It)
alextangent
Caterham glass is cheaper than that 😳 and a whole windscreen with surround is less than 400 notes? Alex McDonald A loud 1700 SS Oh just noticed; race screen only. Ah well. But a full heated screen and surround is still less that 400 🤔 Edited by - alextangent on 19 Nov 2007 21:53:
JampJ
I know Alex, but all I want is the glass, and not heated. I seem to remember someone getting one for around £60. Cheers John JFDI (Just F*****g Do It)

Area Representative Nick Chan Posted November 19, 2007 Area Representative Share Posted November 19, 2007 JJ, looking at the link from Alex, it says that this is for race cars only (MOT failure). Is this to do with the kite marking required for the MOT? Nick The BEC has gone - now onto an R400!!
Johnty Lyons
Yep thats correct BUT I thought he only wanted it for a spare not for permanant use 🤔 jj N.I. L7C AR 🙆🏻 Membership No.3927.

JampJ
Although I said spare, it would be for permanent use in the event of my present one getting damaged. Off to Oz soon, taking car with me. Cheers John JFDI (Just F*****g Do It)
mav
it's not just the kite mark for MOT, the unheated glass does not have a method of being demisted (ie. heated or air being blown on to it)
Molecular--Bob
It is an MOT fail to have the unheated glass, but mine has never been checked, and you could always take it off if they do pull you for it.
Support Team Shaun_E Posted November 20, 2007 Support Team Share Posted November 20, 2007 Actually there is no mention of demisting facilities in the MOT test at all. The details for windscreen checks are here. It might fail Construction and Use regulations (I don't have a link for those). The questions is would you want a screen without demisting facilities? Heated windscreen for S3 is £285. for SV/CSR it's £400. Yellow SL #32 - member of Drowned Rat Racing
