CharlesElliott
I took the engine out of my race car today and made a rather worrying discovery. The LH engine mount was not tight because one of the bolts was too long and so had torqued up but wasn't pulling the bracket towards the block. No wonder I'd noticed the gearlever moving around a lot Anyway, what are the correct fixings? The assembly guide says M10 x 30mm on the LHS and M10 x 55mm on the RHS. It was the LHS that I had problems with and I was using M10 x 30mm (although I had replaced the 'original' bolts the last time I had the engine out so it was possible that they were not actually M10 x 30mm - I used the details given in the assembly guide to re-order). There were no washers used, which I believe is correct. Could someone check and tell me what the correct bolt length is? Englishmaninwales
Charles last winter I fitted a new nearside K engine mount and the new bolts supplied were too long, so CC obviously have the wrong bolt specified on their parts list. I 'm not sure of the answer to your question as to the correct length, I simply used washers Malcolm
h_____
What are you doing to it Charles, new gearbox? I'm currently wondering if my clutch has seen its best days.... PS, everytime I take the engine out, I just order new bolts from Caterham, barely more than 10quid I seem to recall.
CharlesElliott
Hi Hugh - gearbox rebuild (first one) and I was also going to inspect/replace the clutch. I do have the Caterham bolts - I think that you are supposed to use washers on the nearside and I didn't.
