JamesT
I'm probably imagining things but I'm sure my engine sounds different these days. It's a 1.6K Supersport that's done 3000 miles. There's a background noise, best described as "phzzz" (however that's pronounced) that's noticable under load from about 4000 rpm upwards (high gear acceleration normally). It's also pretty rattley, but I guess that's normal, and I'm still not convinced that it revs as freely as it should. Are these symptoms of something serious, or should I stop worrying a thrash it anyway?
Allen Payne
A common problem is a loose plug lead cover on the rocker box - it makes lots of different noises depending on the revs. Regards Allen
Fred
another one is if you have 4into1 the box can slip back and give you a blow at the four pipes question.gif fredid=blue> biggrin.gif
scooby dooby doo
or something silly like some coins in the handbrake well. or the throttle cable rattling against the bonnet. the plug cover is the favourite though. millsn
On my harnesses I have a piece of paper like label which shows what year they were made. This really fizzes at certain speeds. Do you have new harnesses? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
Phantom Menace
Phzzzzzz could also be fuel pump noise!!!
JamesT
Thanks for the advise. It's not harnesses (don't have them), coins/keys, or fuel pump (wrong location). I checked the plug cover and it was slightly loose so have tightened that up. It's due a service soon so I'll leave it till then. No-one shouted "stop driving the car right now!" so I'll assume it's one of those character things. Thanks again.
