Here is a summary of what was agreed for next season.

Eligibility:

Caterham 21. Inclusion still TBD

Scoring and Awards:

No of rounds - 15.

Competitors need to have entered and competed in at least 7 rounds to win a class.

Competitors are expected to have entered at least one L7CGB organised round (in 2008 this will be two Curborough's) for their class results to count towards the Class or overall Champion awards.

All scoring to remain as is. Class records will not be used in 2008.

Possible amendments to event class awards - rather than silver plates - details of options to be emailed to all 2007 registered competitors

Novice definitions - no change

Technical Regulations:

Class 1:

Reworded to include all 1.6 K non-supersport engines with 5 speed gearbox up to 125bhp.

Class 2/3:

Removal of the size restriction on TBs due to 1.4 K to 1.8 K requiring 57mm TB retention.

Class 4 no changes

Class 5:

Maximum tyre width increased to 235mm

Class 6 no changes

Noise:

Specific regulations will apply to the Goodwood round which will probably affect competitors in Classes 4-6.

Tyre Warming:

Regulations will be reworded to ensure that forward motion is maintained by not applying the brakes whilst spinning wheels. The club got into quite a bit of trouble at Loton Park in 2007 and we are 'on probation' for 2008. We enjoy competing there so we need everyone'e cooperation please.

Timing Struts:

Competitors are reminded of the revised timing strut height regulations for 2008.

Classes 1-5:

Revised regulations regarding the mandatory fitment of catalytic converters for all cars in these classes manufactured on or after 01/01/2000 will we believe come into force for 2009 in our championship.

Class 6 is non-roadgoing therefore the new regs don't apply.

E12.16.7: Exhaust catalytic converters must be fitted to all production based touring, saloon and sports cars, including specialist production and kit cars, manufactured after 31/12/99, from 1st January 2009 and for newly registered championships from 1 January 2008. They may be specified for certain other formulae.

Nothing there about it not applying to non road going cars *confused*

Guys,

I am clarifying the Class 6 situation with a guy at the MSA - will come back when I have more.

The good news is that any diesel Caterhams are not covered - apparently there is some rewording that will remove diesel engines from this!

If I look at the 2008 Blue Book Online I can't at present locate the regulation - the revamp means E.12 should be on P146 in Competitors C(b) - but it isn't.

Best Regards,

Brian

Brian; I responded to their call for comments on the cat regulation - the written response I have does say that it's intended to apply to all vehicles. They specifically cite formula fords and touring cars as examples of where it's already been done - and neither of those is particularly road legal....

I did point out to them that (as originally worded) the reg would require diesels and even electric vehicles to fit a cat - even though it's well proven to be counterproductive in those cases. Sounds like they listened to that bit, so maybe other changes have been added.

But the quote I posted earlier was from the MSA press release announcing the reg had been ratified by the motorsports council - and is the original wording. I'm now officially confused *confused* (and I'm a clerk, so supposed to help enforce this!)

The FIA roll over protection is POTENTIALLY sorted now that at least one cage is available for a 21. It is therefore up to the management team to approve or disapprove subject to certain rules.

Obviously, if the need for a cage or FIA bar is important that will limit potential entries to one or two - my car wouldn't be one of them at this stage as I'm not prepared to fit the cage in the next 12 months.

However, Bacon Butty may have different ideas and certainly there is the option of fitting it to another chassis sometime soon.
