Modified VVC Head

Red SLR

Recommended Posts

I will very shortly have a fully modified VVC head up for sale.

The head was going to be part of a project for my 1.6SL but this is no longer on the cards as I am looking at a new caterham. teeth.gif

The spec is

VVC Head ported and polished by the best person in the business (VVC Blanked)

1227 cams

Pair vernier pulleys

Valve springs (double)

Steel spring caps

VVC blanking kit

Solid follower shims

Set big valves

Cosilbro guides

The head is ready to go and has taken about 5 months to put together.

These are rare as rocking horse ****! I have waited 8 months for this head, and I am a little disappointed not to be getting it fitted.

It will produce around the 200bhp mark.

Sensible offers will be entertained.

Nudger, your head is to exactly the same spec.

Its worth pointing out that virtually identical heads have produced

242BHP on a 1700K Caterham Similar cams

250BHP on an 1800K Caterham Similar cams

235BHP on an 1800K Caterham - Same cams

228BHP on an 1800K Caterham Same cams

226BHP on an 1800K Elise Same cams

215BHP on an 1800K Elise Softer cams

Oily,

My head's the best ever (i.e. no-one else's is as good as mine) but I fancy building another one next year. We're going to the USA next year, and if it were humanly possible, I'd like to have a decently powerful engine in reserve. It's primarily for my use, but obviously if anyone else suffered a grenaded engine they would be allowed to use it.

I have 3 options... I could either:

1. Have a go at porting one myself, and then ask my friend DVA to "clean" it up for me (if he has the time).

2. See if DVA would do another for me (I'm not keen on this option knowing how busy he is and any, I could usefully learn how to do this for myself).

3. I could try to buy one.

Whichever option I can go for, I'd like to build the engine as close to the spec of my current engine as is possible. Makes for an easy swap in this case.

Whether I manage to come up with an identical engine to my current one or not, we will almost certainly be taking at least 1 spare K engine to the USA as there are not Rover dealers to help with parts should we need them. If we had our way, we would have a spare engine (and ready-mapped ECU) for a dry sump and wet sump application.

Getting them there is easy... we just put the spares in the containers with the cars. We could get about 100 engines in that way.
