Brucey
I'm still looking for a suitable 1800k engine to upgrade my 1400k ss. There has been a 1998/1999 Elise S1 1800k engine on e bay but the owner doesn't know if it's EU2 or EU3. It was going to be supplied with wiring loom. Unfortunately he seems to have withdrawn it from the auction ☹️ For future reference, would all S1 Elises be EU2? If anyone has a good 1800k laying around let me know Bruce. oilyhands
Late S1 Elises are EU3, just ask him if it has a distributor cap on the end of the head, if so it is EU2, if not it is EU3, conversion from one to t'other is a cinch... Oily

Brucey
Malcolm, Yes I've been following a number of 1800K's on e bay. The problems with e bay are: Most are from breakers and include a lot of bits I don't need in the price. I'm also paying their mark up. I've set a limit of 150ish miles to pick an engine up (will go further for the right one). With modern LED odometers it's hard to varify the milage (suprising how many have done 30K!) I'd much rather deal with someone who has a good reason for selling and some history. (for example low milage Elise unit from damaged car or Civic conversion) I've seen 3 suitable units in 2 months of looking. I've just got to get lucky enough to bag one. Bruce. Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted October 29, 2007 Leadership Team Share Posted October 29, 2007 Why not get a pretty cheap one and have Oily rebuild it? It's worth it just for the education! Stu. www.superse7ens.co.uk..........the rebuild 😬

Brucey
Malc, Sounds interesting, excuse my ignorance, but is an R300 lump 1800cc? What cams, tensioner, pulleys etc are fitted to an R300? I'm assuming it makes around 150bhp but I'd have to fit my cams to keep my EU2 ECU. M25, A duratec is a bit beyond my budget, and I'd end up burning my leg on the exhaust instead of SWMBO 😬 Bruce. Malc Dudley
The R300 engine is 1800cc and pulls 160bhp when using throtle bodies and a decent exhaust. This is an EU2 engine. It will be a straight swap.Would sugest an emerald would increase performance. dragged along by 195 horses
Casbar
Why would and Emerald increase performance My R300 engine has an MBE ECU and has been mapped by Steve Greenauld, nothing wrong with the MBE. If you buy an Emerald you should still get a mapping session.
Malc Dudley
The engine comes without an ECU and i assume the existing 1400 unit has a rover ECU.That was the reason for the comment. dragged along by 195 horses
Casbar
alas clear now
Tony Whitley
Not quite a straight swap - 1800 won't work with 1400 MEMS unless the 1400 flywheel is used (different crank position sensor pattern).
