Stuck throttle effect?

So there Iwas, nice constant 6000 rpm all the way along the M62, up the M1, up the A1 and off up the A19 - lovely!

Turn off up the A172 Stokesley, still nice constant ish revs - got ear plug in so can't really hear. Nice blast along there, (hello Mr Taxi Driver & Mr not so fast focus Driver) and came to some lovely ladies riding some horses. Ah, ha normally I would rev the nuts of it, toot the hooter to let them know I wa shere, but in a fit of niceness, I lifted off, and took it out of gear to roll past quietly.

Except the dull drone of the engine didn't change - banged the acclerator down again - went down and came back again - revs went up and back to 6000rpm. Hmmmm! Tried this experiment again - same effect! This could be good - acclerator not stuck but holding revs! Contemplated this thought - revs slowly came down to idle as I rolled along - all seems okay now - revs up and down okay.

Any ideas ? Anything to do with the hout holding 6000 revs?
