Gear Ratio replacements for Type 9 5 speed box

Recommended Posts

Just been looking at the Quaife "sierra 5 speed clubman syncro kits" and was

wondering if anyone has any experience of these? Currently running standard

Type 9 and I understand from Quaife that the kit is OK for that.

Recommended ratios? I have a 3.92 diff and 115 BHP (at 6500 rpm - limit at

about 6750) K series right now but the engine will be worked on over time

with a view to around 180 BHP at I guess something like 7500 - 8000 rpm

ultimately. I was looking at the 2.39 first but would that be too much for

my current power? (Gives about 47 mph at 6750 red line according to DVA's

gear program)

TIA

If this is a straight cut gearset, then this is what I use.

I use the 2.39 1st, but I have >200 bhp, and tons of torquetongue.gif

You can get a 2.6 1st (what ratio is the 6 speed 1stquestion.gif), I think, which might be a little better, although I would have thought that the 2.39 would be fine (despite your mediocre power outputblush.gif) and will be even better should you decide to upgrade the engine......

Thanks Blatman

I'm looking at the helical cut (the SC being the heavy duty kit) but the ratios are the same. So that looks good (I don't want to go too short on the first gear for when I do start the engine upgrades).

BTW, you at Stoneleigh this weekend? May see you there if so.

I'm there both days................

Hope to meet quite a few new faces

I'll be easy to spot, 'cos I'll be the only fella on the L7Club stand wearing a Westf1eld Club hat/Fleece. If I'm carrying some C******m wing stays, it means that I haven't found Alex yet............wink.gif
