Support Team c7trp Posted October 13, 2007 Support Team Share Posted October 13, 2007 I'm trying to help a mate get his son's quad running. Its a little 50cc two stroke motor with electric and kick start. Its turning over fine with good compression. The plug is new and we've got a healthy spark. I've drained the fuel and replaced. Kicking the engine over there is absolutely nothing! The plug is getting wet with petrol, but its not firing. Engine earth is good. I'm running out of ideas. Any clues? Beelzebub
Open throttle fully & I mean right to the stop, put the choke off & give it a a couple of dozen kicks with the throttle pegged. Let me know how you get on 🤔
elie boone
It could be a carburretor problem, otherwise use brake clean to clean the plug when it's wet with petrol. Use start pilot to start it from cold and see if it catches direct, if it does and stalls after this then you have a carburretor problem.
Grim Reaper
Take the plug out, heat it up on a gas stove, replace and start

j passfield
I tend to agree with Davesport, but you could also drain the fuel tank, I am assuming it is a pre-mix, then CAREFULLY mix a fresh gallon of fuel using good quality two stroke oil, modern small 2 strokes are really sensitive to the correct ratio. Do as Davesport suggests throttle wide open and no choke, this gives plenty of air to vapourise the fuel, if it then fires give it a touch of choke and try again, as soon as it fires and runs let the choke off. Support Team c7trp Posted October 13, 2007 Author Support Team Share Posted October 13, 2007 Fella's you've just made a 7 year old very happy *thumbup* Davesports technique worked. This led me to a carb issue. So I've stripped and cleaned it. ( Now if goes goodo. Thanks for your help.
