Robert OSELLO
Having read so much comments and recommendations to upgrade 1.6 K engines to get more power that I'm convinced competition exhaust, cams, Throttle Bodies and programmable ECU should be the right package for a first stage. However, do we have some figures/numbers on reliability? How is the engine life affected, is somebody aware of that? Thanks, Robert.
Julian Thompson
Rob, engine life is unfortunately something that is not possible to quantify with any level of certainty. I would suggest that a keen eye to service intervals and proper warming through of the motor before hard use will be your (very important) half of the bargain. The other massive issue is to absolutely understand that there are many ways to do the tuning thing, not all of them good. You need a skilled individual who has seen it all before to advise on a balanced package of cam choice, head issues and induction that will work well together along with suitable ECU maps that won't allow the engine to run lean / detonate at any time. If you do the above (and there is a lot of knowledge on this website) you'll be a happy bunny I'm sure!
