John Vine
The silencer/cat unit on my 1.8K has sprung a leak at the joint between the rear plate of the silencer and the tailpipe. Can I simply get the existing welded joint re-welded (that is, is there enough metal there), or is something more drastic likely to be needed? As you can imagine, I'm not exactly thrilled by the propect of a replacement, as I believe they cost around £800!! JV
old captain slow
Mine did exactly the same thing. I got it welded by Caterham. Can't recall how much, but it must have been reasonable or I would have remembered the price. It was fine after that. C7 CDW
John Vine
Blimey, David, that was quick! Thanks. Presumably, any competent welder could do the job? JV
Red Line Components
1999 1.8 K series - same problem , resolved by welding it up, probably stronger than it ever was now.
John Vine
More encouragement -- thanks, chaps. I've just taken the silencer round to a man who knows a man who's expert at TIG welding, so I should be on the road again soon. In the meantime, I shall occupy myself fitting the latest upgradeitis manifestation -- a Laminova oil cooler.... JV
Wilkinsonp
just for info, my 97 1.6 ss did the same thing..took it to caterham who sent it out to be welded @ a cost of 50 quid !
