FlymoFraser
I thought it was 6800 rpm as per here R287 Mobile Jaffa Cake- It's black at both ends with a smashing orangey bit in the middle here
shn7
Depends if it's a std 1.6k (115/120bhp) or a Supersport (135/138bhp). Above answers could both be correct. Steve. Sussex (West) AO Not forgetting Percy the Polar Bear

76hook
I don't want to cause any damage or blow it up by revving it to hard. This is my first Caterham so it is all new to me.
Roadsport06
Just make sure your fluids are up to temp and regularly going to 6800-7000rpm should be no problem. Thats what the 1.6 SS is in there to do. BRG and Yellow nose VU06 XZX
76hook
Thanks,I believe that my one is the standard Roadsport. How do I tell the Diff between Roadsport and Supersport. If it is standard, what would I need to do to upgrade the engine to ss spec. and how much would this cost?? mav
The upgrade is £750 from Caterham Aftersales, fitted. It includes a new ecu and a pair of uprated cams.
Roadsport06
I think the SS is just different cams and a reflashed ECU. CC do it for £1000, but this excludes fitting (according to their site). I bet you could get it much cheaper if you dont go through CC though. Sheds Moderator
If you want to check and CC can't tell you what you have got, simply get the thing hot and run the engine in neutral on a steady throttle at steadily rising revs. At the point when the ECU cuts you can read the engine speed on the tacho. That's what the cut is there for. You won't break the engine by running it between 6 and 7k once the oil is hot. That's within the design and the 1.6 k crank is very well engineered.
