Blatman
Making sure the cable is in the "idler switch" (IACVquestion.gif) doesn't mean it's working properly............ The trick is to disconect a properly functioning one, once the engine is at warm idle. It sounds like yours could be knackeredsad.gif Edited by - Blatman on 1 May 2002 13:53:
andytommo
Thanks for your help kind sir. Shall i replace the idler switch part?
Peter Carmichael
I don't want to scaremonger... ... but see what torque the engine turns over at, with a torque wrench on the front pulley bolt. Should be less than 22lbft (IIRC) with the plugs out. If you have a resistance of more than this then something funny might be going on with the engine internals and stopping to investigate now will save you from big problems. Having said that, it could just be the usual suspects of the IACV and ECU reset.
andytommo
Scary? i'm pooping my pants. i dont own a torque wrench.Maybe i should drive it to Dartford from Streatham, What is the ECU reset? Andyt
Andrew Dent
ISTR a reset is turn the ignition on and depress/raise teh acc pedal 5 times. It tells the ecu where max and min is.

Peter Carmichael
if you are in Streatham, what are you up to this evening? There are going to be a load of us in The Waterfront from 7ish. I could look in on my way past if you want to get an opinion from a die-hard scaremongerer...

old captain slow
Mine does that all the time. It's just a faulty connection on the plug on the idle control valve. A quick waggle fixes it. C7 CDW
andytommo
Glad to know that yours does this too, Is the idle control valve the black 3cm diameter little box on the side of the air intake? If so -I cant be waggling it right! I had a fiddle (with the car)last night. Thanks for everyones kind help Andy T

Peter Carmichael
Andy's car is a 1.4 Supersport with the ali inlet runners with the filter at the front. The idle air control valve is underneath the metal throttle body. I couldn't see anything obvious last night, so will be doing a sensor check over the weekend.
