wiper blades falling off

Hi

If you've read my long post in Chit Chat ('Yaheyy - I've just bought a Caterham')

you'll have seen the bit about the wiper blade falling off.

Is this a common problem ?

Is caterham the only place I can get replacements or are there some equivalents that will fit ?

I have had a hunt with the search facility but couldnt come up with anything.

The usual post would be " get aeroscreens and stop being a nancy boy, then you don't need wipers". But I have no intention of descending into such primary school purile harrassement. Though I have aero's and people with screens ARE nancy boys. teeth.gif

Whilst I did have a sceen I didn't have a problem with wipers falling off though I suspect only Caterham have replacements (though I did think about bodging some out of chopped up ordinary wipers. I did have to pull the wiper arms off the splines and put them back on slightly rotated so they swept the portion of the screen I was looking through.

One of my car's wipers fell off about a year ago. When I got the replacements from Caterham, they were noticeably better assembled than the originals supplied in 1999, pre-bent into the correct shape to put the blade at the correct angle to the screen, and the right length too.

Thanks everyone. Caterham have quoted me blades at £4.80 each plus vat and arms £8.63 each plus Vat , so I'll probably go for those. Not cheap but probably easier than spending a couple of hours at my local parts shop.

After rereading all the replies to my question I decided to pop into my local parts shop to see if they had any wipers to fit my car. They said no, but pointed me in the direction of my local Landrover specialist and they knew straight away what they were. For those who live in Norwich the company is called JSF and they are just off Vulcan Road.

The best bit was the price - £4.75 + vat for the arms and £3.75+vat for the blades versus at £8.63 and £4.80 +vat from Caterham. I also bought two new spindles at £3.25 each as mine look a bit worn, these just Allen key onto the shafts.

For the benefit of anyone who needs them, the part numbers I have are :-

Arms - PRC2620

Blades - PRC1330

Spindle - STC987

As far as I can tell these are the Rover part numbers - the bags have two sets of numbers on them and the numbers above are all marked 'Rov:' in front of them.

I havent fitted them yet but I dont expect there will be any problems - I'll post here again if there are.

Once again, thanks to everyone who's helped me with this.
