Peter Carmichael
One of my adjustable platform sleeves split and was riding over the circlip on a rear damper. Next step would have been the collapse of that corner of the car. This was probably initiated by the sleeve rubbing lightly on the de dion tube. INSPECT YOUR ADJUSTABLE PLATFORM SLEEVES!! Rob Walker
Peter, When fitting the sleeves Reg Price advised me to space the bottom metalastic bushs with a washer allowing the sleeve to clear the DD tube but still not allow the sleeve to turn past the two machined flats. Area Representative Tin Man Posted May 12, 2002 Area Representative Share Posted May 12, 2002 I have just checked my new ones and they are rubbing! I have added an extra washer to the de dion tube. The sleeve now clears the tube. Is this an accepted practice?
Charlie7
Are you talking about the adjustable Bilsteins? Ive just had Caterham send me the platforms to fit to my standard shockers and need to check prior to putting them back on. (1.6K series, de dion, built 2000). Cheers Charlie Jersey
Area Representative Tin Man Posted May 14, 2002 Area Representative Share Posted May 14, 2002 I had the standard Bilsteins. The sleeve was just catching on a bit of welding on the tube. This could be ground off, but I found adding a extra washer easier as i do not have a grinder. It is worth checking before you torque the bolts up.
