Racetech removable steering wheel

I've just bought a removable steering wheel from Racetech, but when it arrived it came with a column end that's about 3" long and I can't see any way to fit it to my existing steering column (Caterham original Racetech Steering wheel). Am I missing something here?

Yeah about 12" !!! You need the steering wheel (suitably drilled to accept the coupling) & a new upper steering column (about 15 " long), which is splined at the top end (coupling fits onto splines) & has a flattened end to connect to the lower steering column. Have a word with the guys in Caterham parts dept.

Good luck

The QR kits have the 3" stub which is meant to be welded to the end of *any* steering collum . The caterham supplied kit comes complete with collum section already welded on as direct replacement for the std collum .

Personally I would return your "universal" kit and buy the whole setup already welded from caterham .

Either that, or if you live anywhere near Guildford, Surrey I can certainly recommend a very good chap that will happily modify your existing column for a very reasonable sum, whilst at the same time doing a fantastic job of it!

They are based near Haslemere and are called JTM Services and their number is 01428 658865. They aren't open on a weekend though....

The proprietor (Jim Morgan) welded mine on, firstly boring out my (MK2 Escort) column so the stub was in interference fit inside, then cross-drilled it and TIG welded around it and in the drilled holes. The job is superb (except I forgot to fit the upper bearing before it was welded....) and he only charged me £20! biggrin.gif
