Goblin SLR
For my 1998 SLR (VHPD), I just bought Castrol Edge 5W 30. Will that be suitable? Cheers G
Alba 7
G, 5W 30 seems a bit thin, most people use 5W 40 and 5W 50 for track days. Halfords had their own (made by Comma) synthetic products on special quite recently. This seems to get good reviews - I'm about to find out as I'm putting some into my engine this week. Support Team Shaun_E Posted August 13, 2007 Support Team Share Posted August 13, 2007 I wouldn't recommend it - a bit low in hot viscosity. Caterham currently recommend 5W50 but I'm sure most people use a 0W40 (e.g. Mobil 1), 5W40 or even 10W40. The certification required is ACEA A3. Phil
A /30 will give less resistance to flow when hot while still giving great film strength but I believe it is not the recommended grade for your style of engine so a /40 grade specially a fully synthetic would be my choice and a /50 only if you are causing a lot more heat to build up, i.e. track use or racing. The oil you have purchased is expensive and really used for long drain intervals and not the ideal choice for your application, I would take it back and swop it if you can. Helping and encouraging others rather than putting them down.
