How easy is it to upgrade 1.6K to Supersport spec?

Price to do such with new CKD approx. £1000. Would it be a similar amount to convert an existing standard unit?

Are any other major upgraded components included (comp. exhaust, etc.)?

Do they all really need the 6-speed 'box?

Is this a popular upgrade after originally running the standard spec. or do most not bother with the hassle & go for SS spec. to start with? If you have, where would you recommend the best place to go?

The Supersport kit will give you cams, ecu/immobiliser to match. It will cost much the same as an aftersales experience as speccing it at the same time as ordering a kit. A competition exhaust is a completely separate item and is worth a huge chunk of performance at these specs.

On an older car, I would be tempted to DIY source a Supersport alternative. By speccing cams and a programmable ECU you will get everything the Supersport gives plus the flexibility to go further should you wish.

Have you seen these 2 web pages.

Can't recommend them enough. The problem with the SS conversion is that whilst it is an easy route to more bhp, if at a later stage you want to go further you have to more or less throw away the SS kit and start again. I was originally going to go the SS route but instead followed Dave Andrews. Now have 190 bhp from a 1.6 K series. There are a number of us that have done likewise. Theoretically you should be able to do this in parts as and when money and time allow. Suggest you start with a replacement ECU as the existing Rover unit does not allow substantial upgrades as it can not be reprogrammed/remapped, then try throttle bodies, head upgrade, cams etc. It all depends what your ultimate end game (and budget !) is.
