How do you know if diff is good ?

As title says. Its a ZF LSD from road and race (ie modified for caterham) approx 5 years and 20k miles ago. How do you know if its working as it should ? (more scientific method than do-nuts)

 

Read an article on GT3 diffs requiring rebuild every 10 trackdays and that got me thinking.

Send it back to them for a refresh/rebuild? Will be cheap if it's mostly ok. Or more expensive if it's full of shrapnel

I thought these diff were prity bomb proof. what sort of 20k have you been doing? road or track or racing?

Probably 70:30 road and track. I too thought they would be long lasting, but was surprised at the Porsche stats, albeit they are somewhat more lardy and with a tad more power.

you can also put one wheel on some wet grass and give it somebeans - diff should lock up and off you go...

MIne started to spin the inside wheel. Then I knew it was knackered. ☹️ Full rebuild was about £500 including parts(lots of them)
