Stationary M25 Traveller
IF it is the same as my 5-speed, it is 10mm What are you going to do with the pliers ? Cut the allen key down far enough that you can unscrew plug until loose enough to use fingers. If a taper thread like 5-speed, it only needs a little bit of turning before it is completely free. ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... And racing around to come up behind you again. new link to photos Edited by - Stationary M25 Traveller on 21 Jul 2007 18:39:
BurpleH
Thanks I'll try a 10mm then. The plier/allen key combination seemed appropriate given the lack of space apon first inspection Ta Dave
Darren Harrold
My 6 speed has 10mm drain and 3/8th fill Darren CSR230
Gasmaninaseven
The fill will be 10mm or 3/8ths. I have used a cut down allen key, but it is much easier to use a short length stuck in a suitable sized ring spanner. Neil Build pictures here Guantanamo Bay Orange SUPERLIGHT R400...... pburt
Agree with Neil on use of ring spanner (I actually used a closed ended brake bleed nipple spanner - 10mm). Wouldn't use pliers. Peter Burt
BurpleH
*thumbup*Thanks for all the replies, I shall take on board the use of a ring spanner as well. Dave 'It's a big thing to be small'

Slow Hida
Sorry if I am missing the obvious but if you fill the 6 speed gearbox by removing the top cover, how do you know when it has reached the correct level?
Stationary M25 Traveller
You would have to measure it, or remove the level plug as an indication of when it had reached the level. ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... Stationary M25 Traveller
By the way - all this talk of removing the top of the gearbox - how DO you remove the tunnel top ?? 2002 SV with padded black cover. ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... Petrolhead
By the way - all this talk of removing the top of the gearbox - how DO you remove the tunnel top ?? 2002 SV with padded black cover.Good question. I have needed to remove the gear leaver and just lifted up enough to get to it. From what I can see, assuming you have the handbrake on the tunnel is to cut a big hole in the bulkhead 😬 R5 no 65 😬
Stationary M25 Traveller
I guess it is glued on, where it overlaps the tunnel sides ? ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... Petrolhead
Mine is not glued on, just loose R5 no 65 😬
