Dazzled
I've fitted an Apollo and now the oil pressure does not seem as high as it was without. It's a 1.8 VVC. Can anyone tell me what the pressure should be please. D
mav
Most see a .25 to .5 bar reduction after fitting. My 1.6K ss runs about 3.75 bar on 5w40 and has improved slightly with the intorduction of 5w/50 at the last oil change...
Support Team Shaun_E Posted June 7, 2007 Support Team Share Posted June 7, 2007 The pressure does drop slightly when an Apollo is fitted. When hot, pressure at idle should be around 2 bar (30 psi) and at revs around 4 bar (60 psi). I wouldn't worry unless at idle it drops to 25psi or lower. Dazzled
It currently hovers just above red when at idle when very hot - it's done about 2,000 miles like that and I regularly check the level. D
CageyH
Does your pressure sender work properly? They are notorious for failing. Only dead fish go with the flow....!
Dazzled
Hi Cagey - I assume the pressure sender works correctly as the pressure does vary. It was certainly working correctly before the apollo was fitted but how would i know otherwise? Dave
CAB
Dazzled My 1.8SS with an Apollo runs about 3.75 - 4 bar hot and the needle flicks between 1 and 2 bar at tickover.... I think I'll change the sender at the next oil change, it's only done 7000 miles. CAB
CageyH
Sounds like mine was before I went to a mech gauge. Just above red on idle and about two bar tops when running. Mech gauge shows 65 psi cold idle. Never got that before (apart from when the sender was new). Only dead fish go with the flow....!
shn7
Dave, The senders can fail in a number of different ways including over and under reading. Best option by far is a mechanical set up. I had wierd pressure readings before making the swap. If it's running ok, not using fluids then almost certainly nothing to worry about. Steve. MAK
Dazzled If you want a reliable oil pressure reading recommend you ditch the CC set up. replacing the sender may provide a fix, but its also likely to go faulty again Just do a search - you will see how many threads on this. Much better solution is a mechanical gauge, and capillary pipe set up- obtainable from Think Automotive. Or if you have loadsa money SPA Malcolm
Roadsport06
I have had my car for just over a year now and at tick over it is just above red, but 3-3.5 when hot and full beans. It has always been like this too. I will contact cc and listen to what they say, as I might need a replacement. The mechanical route sounds like what I need to do too. Jason Plato
the K series pressure relief valve is set at 3.8bar. This should be your "normal" reading at say 4500rpm when the oil is nice and hot (80/90deg)
