More power for a 2001 SL 1.6

You're probably looking at 2k-4k depending on what you have already and how far you really want to go (things like engine longevity and making everything double neat add quite a bit to the cost). And of course it's eminently possible to spend more if you want!

If you need to have the work done for you, you probably want to add anything up to another 100%.

Oily and RK are the men to talk to. Check out Oily's website for details. Thoroughly top bloke too (as no doubt is RK smile.gif.

I have a SL 1.6k SS and I'm looking for more power as well. My solution has been to purchase a new engine which I am then going to gradually upgrade and do a swap later. If you have the space, this is easier than having the car off the road and gives you the ability to split the job up in terms of time required and also financially if that is a concern.

I am starting with a VVC engine as I think this is better than being restricted by the K16 head on the stock 1.6ss.

If you want to stick with the current engine and get c170-200bhp you could do this with a new vvc head, cams, throttle bodies, ECU, probably new loom, mapping and some other bit and bobs. It's not simple and for me the task is beyond my current expertise, hence the route I'm taking - I can go slower, learn as I go and still have a road going seven in the meantime.

You also need to consider things such as the exhaust, it will be better to change that to a something like the R500 system if you are looking to free up as much power as possible. I'd also think dry sumping is going to help protect the investment you make in the engine if you end up taking full advantage of the extra power.

It all sounds like hassle and you can make it easier by just throwing money at the established companies like PTP and Minister but I think that goes against the spirit of seven ownership to a certain extent.

If you are at the four counties tonight, I'll happily bore you to death with the costs and options I've looked at.

I also have plenty of cost info for you if you need it from my records. I went to 200bhp on a non-VVC/VHPD head, more is feasible but the VVC head is a better start point.

PS You could also engage Chris "Fart Arse" Clark as your agent. The total cost will likely come out at about 47p, plus agent's fee (so it might not save you much in the long run).

Give it a rest Arnie, all I've had you doing so far is lowering the crane into the boot of the Landrover; I haven't even begun to make you work hard yet.

Other BlatChatters should be grateful to me for making you turn to the dark side and work on X-Power cars (as they are now known I assume).

btw, shall I blat down past your place on my way to fork handles this PM ?

Dave Walker's bolt on goodies include VAT and delivery but you fit it yourself. It's piece of cake, although to get a good & proper upgrade you need to port match the TB's and will need a proper exhaust of the variety that has the 4-1 collector outside of the bodywork.

Port matching isn't as hard as you may think, but will need some specialist kit, again that info can be had on Oily's aforementioned web site.
