tyre size question

Recommended Posts

I know SLR's ran 205 tyres on 8'' rims but this is apparently not ideal. Toyo R888's only come in 205 or lower on 13'' dia so what does the cognoscenti reccommend can i use Toyo 205 50 r13 or do i need to use a different tyre size.

Hi Wild Bill,

sorry don't want to h/jack thread *eek*

I would be intrested in this also, as i am looking at some new tyres(toyo's) at the moment 😳

Speed rating confusing me ('H' rated 130mph which 205's are or 185's which are 'V' rated 149mph latter on the SLR??)

Are you looking at stickier tyres 🤔

Looked at the A021 all round tyre just more expensive than Toyo's 🤔

205s should be fine on an 8" rim. I'm running 205 CR500s and plenty of people run 205 A048s, R888s, etc.. The Mike Barnby mag wheels are 8.5" and people run 205s on those too.

Bear in mind that the CR500s are significantly wider than some/most other makes for the same specified width. Visually a 205 CR500 looks fine on an 8.5" rim while an R888 is obviously much narrower, looks too narrow IMHO, and is outside the manufacturer's spec (insurance issues???)

As an example, I toolk this pic of a 175 CR500 next to a 185 yoko 21R
