Some advice on rear wheels still sought

Recommended Posts

I've decided to buy 2 minilites for the rear and there is some doubt about 13 x 8 fitting width wise for MOT purposes so at the moment it looks like 7" as my current 10 spokes are 15 x 6.5.

Changing cos i prefer the ride and stance of the higher sidewall and want wider tyre for a bit more grip as 6" aint enough

before speding i'd like to try a 7 and 8 any suggestions how i might achieve this (i'm near Bath)

Also despite endless searching whilst i think it'll be yoko A021's the sizing seems confusing. I'm thinking 205 60 R13 on 7" but maybe i'm wrong

just don't want to make a purchase and find it a waste

Why do you think there will be a problem with 8" rims? These are a standard Caterham size and in fact the MB mag wheels are 8.5".

There could be problems with the offset of course but if you search through techtalk, you'll find the offset of the Caterham wheels and can purchase wheels to the correct offset.

The only other problem is that the latest Caterham 8 spokes won't fit around earlier de-dion tubes but 10 minutes with an angle grinder soon sorts that out.

Won't it look a bit odd with 15s on the front and 13s on the back?

The Caterham 13" 8 spokes look great, can be had in anthracite, black of silver and will fit.

Tyre size should be 205/60 on 8" rears. 185/60 would be appropriate for 13x6" fronts.

if you use ford Escort 8" rear wheels then they can poke out of the archs by an inch or so . This "could" fail the MOT and looks daft anyway .

If yiou buy the wheels with the correct offset / back depth then the wheels wont poke out of the archs

a search on tech talk will reveal the correct backdepths / offset etc

Thanks for the advice BC impressive as always. So 8" will be fine with the correct offset. I've searched Techtalk for Offset and back depth but only somethging about a victorian house purchase comes up *confused*

Once correct wheels purchased (i'll be using 13 x 6 on the front BTW so it won't look odd) will 205 be OK or will a wider spec be required?
