Two Faulty Apollos from Caterham

Recommended Posts

Russ and I have been fitting an Apollo tank for a mate. When we finally got it fitted we discovered a small weep in the top weld where the breather hose attatches to the tank. Caterham duly replaced the faulty tank and we fitted the replacement. No leaks on any of our joints but there is again a weep (bigger than last time!) this time from the weld where the arm for connecting the top hose joins the tank *mad*

Are we just unlucky to have two faulty tanks in a row? Thoughts on whether we should be asking Caterham to fit a replacement FOC (we have now wasted countless hours, about 8 litres of synthetic oil and a couple of oil filters with all the on/off of different tanks)? Or can anyone suggest something that would seal a weep in an aluminium weld? The weep is on the top of the weld to the arm in a small hollow so oil puddles in the hollow before dripping down round the arm and then down the tank.

On the plus side we have learnt an awful lot about fitting Apollo tanks 😬 😬 😬 😬[:E

Tim,

Given the number of these units out there, and the lack of problems (at least when new), then I'd say you have been very unlucky.

May well be worth having a polite objective discussion with aftersales on Monday though!

Originally removed filter to fit the sandwich plate, then when the first tank was faulty took sandwich plate back off as well so that the car could still be used. Then obviously refitted it all when new tank arrived hence number of filters/amount of oil used. Was warned many times about supporting the fittings with a big spanner whilst tightening - it is quite easy with two people doing the job!

With our current luck probably not worth a go on the Lottery tonight 😬
