The Don
At the rolling road today at under 1200 rpm there's an extra spark every few seconds and the dwell is jumping between 52 and 61. Proved the coil though couldn't test the amplifier. Anyone else had this problem? 1996 Vx XE w/ QED 42H cams. Weber 45 DCOEs. I don't know what sort of ECU it is - anyone know? Thanks, Howard Edited by - The Don on 30 Apr 2007 17:40:
The Don
I should the symptoms of this are a momentary drop in revs at idle every few secs, and (I assume this is related) a pronounced stutter when pulling away from junctions, ie. dead spot. bryn7
is it the original ECU? my 218 HPC has the standard ecu (for the time being) and is a small blackbox, smaller than a pack of ciggies. it is not a wasted spark ECU though. the standard ones i am told are made by MBE. (906 0r 907 istr).
The Don
Thanks, Bryn, As far as I know it's the original, though (ahem ) I haven't actually been able to locate it yet. My original post was made from the rolling road and I now need to hunt around under the dash which is where my Vx Classic's was - where's yours? When are you planning on changing yours? bryn7
mine is under the dash near my left knee, (as i drive). idon't know when i'm changing the ECU yet. if you are after one, i don't know if paul mckenzie still has his for sale? i think his was a wasted spark one though. i've gone for a MBE 967 ful management to go 3D ignition on carbs for the mo then ican upgrade to T.B.'s at alater date more easily. Paul McKenzie
No it was a dizzy job 😳 actually Bryn, but I've decided to keep it as I seem to be on a mission to fill my garage with enough parts to build another car 😳 Paul Edited by - Paul McKenzie on 30 Apr 2007 18:59:
The Don
Bryn, Thanks for the info. If you do decide to sell your standard ECU would you let me know please? All the best, Howard
