Guy Lowe
QUESTION: would an electric 10 bar oil pressure gauge connected to a 5 bar oil pressure sender, read double the actual? and if you had a 10 bar sender with a 5 bar gauge would you get a reading half that of the actual. This is not a trick question and I need to know the answer Guy SB Lowe o *arrowup*o The ZETEC is now running here
I.Mupferit
Guy, did you have the same sender on the X/Flow? What symptoms are you getting that has triggered the question if you don't mind me asking? Guy Lowe
Morning Brent Yes I used the old sender off of the X Flow but changed the gauge from a 5 to a 10 bar one. I now get 8 bar hot at revs and 4.5 bar hot on idle, have I just answered my own question. I.Mupferit
I think you probably have. My old Zetec used to show about 4 bar at speed when hot and about 2 bar at idle. Maybe time to get a 10 bar sender. Guy Lowe
Brent Did the gauge in the complete kit from Think Automotive match your other gauges? if so do you happen to have a part number as it is not in their parts book. I am now going into the garage to put the old 5 bar gauge back in. Guy SB Lowe o *arrowup*o The ZETEC is now running here
I.Mupferit
Not an exact match to the Caterham gauge Guy but not too dissimilar. Nip round and have a look at mine if you like. Brent 2.3 DURATEC SV Reassuringly Expensive R 417.39 😬
Guy Lowe
Brent what time are you back home today? If 4 bar was your max I am off to the garage now to put the old gauge back in Guy SB Lowe o *arrowup*o The ZETEC is now running here
DaveMorris
Guy, I'm sre that the answer is YES. IIRC the VDO (aluminium bodied) senders have different threads on the 0-5 and 0-10 bar senders, so you may have to get a convertor nipple if you decide to keep the gauge and swap senders. Dave. I.Mupferit
Should be home around 17.45 Guy. I'm in all evening so call anytime but I'll probably be eating at about 7ish. Give me a call if you want to come and have a butchers at it. Btw, 4 bar was the max when hot but I seem to recall it was 6 or more when cold so you may want to still go for a mechanical gauge. philwaters
Guy - I've got both my oil pressure sender and the matching gauge if you want to try them. they'll be up for sale when I get my ar$e in gear, along with all the other dials, but they can be loaned out in the meantime... Guy Lowe
Thanks Brent but SWMBO is out tonight so it will have to wait Thanks Phil, but I now know the problem is the sender/gauge combination so I can either change the sender or get the TA mechanical unit that Brent uses.
