djmhall
Almost there on the rebuild, but stuck on the simplest thing! Simply can't get a new (4 groove) belt just supplied by CC to fit over alternator. I have tried everything I can think of. Trouble seems to be that when loosely bolted on and swinging from its top mountings, the alternator hits the old type 2 terminal oil pressure sender before it has swung down enough to allow the belt to fit over. I have long since given up trying the get the belt on with the lower bracket anywhere in sight. The car is a 92 1400SS if that helps. The belt as I say came from CC in MG Rover packaging, labelled as "PQS 100840 R23667" and "63833" also written on the belt. I can't believe I am the first to have hit on this! is there a slightly longer belt that can be found in Halfords or similar? Thanks as always... 1400 SS 6spd currently being rebuilt after 10 years loving neglect.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted April 22, 2007 Leadership Team Share Posted April 22, 2007 Caterham couldhave supplied the wrong belt - IIRC the 1400SS had a different, substantially bigger alternator to the later 1600 & 1800 cars - Caterham may have just supplied a "belt for a K" rather than the one you need. djmhall
Thanks both! There is some light at the end of the tunnel. I will call CC tomorrow and see if they have the other belt.
F355GTS
Dominic If they don't just go to a local factors, the last 3 digits is the length ie 750mm, the 4 refers to the 4 peaks Mark
Englishmaninwales
Mark Thanks for that! I was just about to go and measure a spare belt in the garage! Malcolm

Dartmoor7
Last year CC supplied me with a 50735 for my 1994 1400SS which said on the invoice that it was for the 1.4. But it had 5 peaks not the 4 needed. Car now wears a 40743. Jerry Parker L7 SVN 1400 Supersport
