Jon Ingram
I have fitted a 5 speed to my '87 long cockpit live axle, but you have to modify the prop. etc. jringram

John E
Jon I'm also interested in fitting a 5 speed to my 1990 LC live axle crossflow. Can you let me know what exact mods you made and which box you used. Many thanks. Edited by - John E on 14 Jul 2000 10:17:
Jon Ingram
Edward G, yes I consider it a great improvement. John E, Only for the brave-Cut out the gearbox mount('87 chassis)and fabricate a new one. Parts reqd. 5-speed clutch plate and release bearing and arm, angled speedo drive. The gearbox used: XR4i part no.6246962 and used with spacer and alloy bell housing. jringram Edited by - jon ingram on 15 Jul 2000 10:16:
Alex Wong1697456877
I thought the 4-speed had closer ratio's and was better suited to the 7 than the 5-speed which does have some somewhat less than optimal ratios. Having been driven around Cadwell in a 4-speed live axle Supersport and then goinf round in my old 5-speed supersport, I'd say that the 4-speed is better suited than the 5-speed, except for on motorways.
