cskip
On examination of the Brake Drums, to try and find a clunking noise from the rear end, I have noticed that only one of the retaining screws for the Drum is in place on both sides. Should two screws being holding the drum to the hub? The result is a little lateral play on the drum, could this be causing the clunking noise at the rear? And where can I purchase the replacement screws? Thanks in advance. Clive. Crossflow - Loud and Proud!
Robster
There ought to be two screws, but their job is only to hold the drum in place when the wheel is off...so one doesn't matter. The wheel nuts hold the drum/wheels in place against the hub. Do not overtighten these little nuts, and put some grease/copperslip on them because if the seize...they are a pig to remove and so the drum is a pig to come off. ashaughnessy
Do you get the clonk when cornering, braking, or accelerating? Another thing to check might be the tightness of the bolts that attach the universal joint to the differential, which if loose might cause a clunk when acclerating or taking up the drive.
