J Dunk
No doubt mentioned many times before, however, my 1600 Sprint Ford pushrod engine has very noisey tappets! It didnt have, but when the tappets are adjusted to the Ford spec (20 to 22 thou.) they are noisey. The previous owner had them tight and I am considering adjusting to 15thou. Does anyone have similar experience of tightening down on spec without leaving valves open when the engine is hot? At some point I expect the tappet rod and cam will need looking at, but this may be some time off.
Mick Day
Check whether one has to do this adjustment hot or cold.
J Dunk
Thanks for the response, the book says adjust when cold for the Sprint engine, which is how I have done them.
JampJ
Depends how worn they are, if the rockers are indented, you will have a false reading if using ordinary flat feeler gauges. You can either flat them down if it isn't too bad, or use a thin gauge that fits inside the indent. Cheers J&J JFDI (Just F*****g Do It)
