K front pully in ali?

V7 SLR

Recommended Posts

The imbalance of the front pulley is irrelevant because it is all at relatively small diameters and you can;t do anything about it. The only balancing that is worth doing with a K is crank (unit), flywheel (unit) and crank and flywheel (assembly) - according to my engine builder.

You shouldn't have too many problems with the alternator. You have the Rover spec alternator. You might find that a large pulley on the alternator alone is all it needs. Standard Supersports and SLRS rev to 7600-7800 without alternator problems, so just take the ratio of the pulley sizes and see if the safe 7800rpm turns into a safe 8200rpm. Sorted.

If your clutch is approaching the weight & diameter of your flywheel (which it does with any of the stock clutches and the lightweight flywheel) then it's plain to see that it's as important balance-wise as the flywheel.

No Nig, I wasn't suggesting that every time you remove the pulley you need to rebalance, merely pointing out that it's not a particularly savoury piece of engineering.

Think I'll just apply a lick of paint to it... wink.gif

Thanks all. It's interesting what you learn. Just when I think I know enough talk with confidence, I realise I only know enough to be dangerous. Ah well, at least I recognise that fact.

One day, maybe I'll go down the "ultimate K" route, but I doubt it given my current mode of operation (less racing and more touring).
