Help with the 21 over the next 3 months - UPDATE AT TOP

*** NEW VENUE ***

Am currently in negotiation for use of a double garage in a nice bit of Woking (father's house) as stepmother is quite entertained by the idea of annoying her neighbours by taking a car to bits in the driveway and lots of noisy sportscars turning up at all hours and waking them up/leaving tyre marks everywhere. Oh, and dad wants to help as well.

*** END ***

*** UPDATE ***

I have looked at what I can give back in return for all the help I need and having spoken to DavidW at BHP Trackdays, I have bought a voucher for 1 day on track with BHP at either Outlon or Croix later this year (I would have bought CC, but don't think most of you hooligans will pass the noise test). I will even throw in a session with their resident instructor, John. The names of all those that help are going into a big hat and I'll give the trackday to whoever's name gets pulled out of the hat first once the work is complete. To ensure that it's fair, all names in the hat must have photographic proof of themselves with spanner in hand working on the 21, or collecting/delivering parts. :-)

*** END ***

*** Initial Schedule ***

Obviously, any time that can be shaved off the below would be great

8/9 April - clear out garage in Burnham as a workshop

9th to 21 April - Remove hood/hood hoops

21/22 April - Move tools/spare parts to workshop

28/29 April - Engine/gearbox removal (will need an engine crane)

5/6/7 May - Strip off rest of car, interior and loom

8 May - take car to body shop (Dartford/Bromsgrove) for body removal

8th May to 19th May - wait for body removal and strip suspension/panels etc

19 May - take chassis to Bruce (to be arranged)

29 May - Chassis back to body shop

16 June - Begin rebuild

*** END ***

I need some help getting it to the south-east (Burnham), though it MAY be drivable, getting the engine out and sensibly stored in a way that won't damage it, stripping most of what else we can find then trailering to somewhere to get the body taken off (unless you're feeling brave and want to try helping me unbond, unrivet and unbolt it for the first time in 10 years).

The plan is over the next 3 weekends to empty one half of my dear old mum's garage in Burnham and move all my tools down.

In the evenings I will be removing the hood, seats, interior trim etc and try and label up the wiring loom so I know what goes where.

Then:

1. Remove bonnet, cooling system etc and yank the engine out

2. Remove gearbox

3. Remove prop and diff

5. Strip lights, numberplates, indicators etc

6. Test unbolt doors/boot to ensure that they are easily removeable at a later stage

7. Deliver car to Caterham (Dartford) or Option1 (Bromsgrove) depending on what the insurance company says.

8. Caterham remove body

9. Chassis to Bruce at Arch (though we need to strip the remaining panels and the suspension/wheels first)

THEN

10. Chassis back to caterham where they refit the body

11. Chassis+Body back to Burnham where everything is systematically put back together again.

So - in about 4 weeks time, I'll probably be needing some spare hands to help in the garage, about 6 weeks time I'll need trailer help (SV width trailers seem to be about the right size) and then again in about 8 weeks i'll need trailer help to and from bruce and wherever the body is.

If there's anyone that wants to catalogue the efforts, feel free.

At the venue (Burnham), I'm sure I can supply generous quantities of food, if the weather's nice I can organise barbecued food. For those that aren't driving, there's beer and for those that are, bottomless coffee and tea.

If you're lucky (and Neil Caravanner et al can testify to this), we might even be cooking proper Argentine Chorizo sausages along with the bangers.

Lucky rabbit's feet, horseshoes, holy water and suitable curse proof clothing are a must.

So kicking the tyres repeatedly until all bits fall off then 😬 😬 😬

Just the thought of a visit and ZeNA has cowered in the corner , broken , .

Have a tow bar on Ovlov if you can find a suitable trailor

Burnham to Arch is not an issue at all as both are on (well sort of) route to office in Slough

If at first you don't succed Sky diving is not for you

OK - so i just need to sort Burnham to Bromsgrove or Burnham to Dartford to get the body off and then back to Burnham and we're sorted for the Arch bit of the trip.

Oh, and a trailer. Doesn't the caravanner have something the right size for his SV?

David

Sure, of course I can help (wonders which bits I need for mine... *tongue*)

I need lots of photos of the front end or to look at the twins side by side so that I can find out what the f*%! Bruce did to mine

And I need to take a measure to the door restraints so that I can get those done

Oh yes, I would definitely like to try removing and adjusting the doors (rather than bu88ering mine with experiments)

Can not help on trailer front (or rear) but can help by passing spanners and making helpful suggestions. 😬

If you're any good with a lump hammer or at drilling out rivets, you are a useful pair of hands.

When it comes to the doors side of things, I might well leave you with a few allen keys to take it apart yourself so you can compare with yours.... In terms of the hinge restraints, you can always take mine as a pattern for yours.

Give me the dates & i'll try very hard to attend *thumbup*

I can make tea and point finger and lift and carry heavy stuff *tongue*

I can also sometimes be usefull (allegedly) 😬

My Passat's got a towball if you can find a trailer, i'll help you shift the bits to Dartford if you go that way! 😶‍🌫️

Dave - another pair of hands to help if I can - goodness knows when with work as it is right now, but I do have an engine crane (in Burnham - assuming you mean near to Slough?) which you are welcome to use for as long as you would like, and I expect we migth be able to borrow Marks trailor at some point, assuming no clashes with any of his track days etc etc. I've taken a car apart *smile* so familiar with most destructive processes!!

Caterham's response - (and I don't mind too much) - we need to see the car again with a specialist repairer to assess HOW to fix it properly. 2 days in dartford. Have referred it to the insurance company as it is at their demand that I take it to caterham rather than my preferred assessor.

Hi Dave *wavey*

Sorry not to have answered sooner, but yes of course Mr C and I will be on hand to help where we can *smile* Location is hardly a problem for us 😬 and we do indeed have Angus' engine hoist *thumbup*
