Stationary M25 Traveller
Now seem to have answered own question. Rover dealer hasn't got a clue, unless you give them a Rover Registration and chassis number. Even then it may be hit/miss. So - Redline/CC here I come !! ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... ptpt
Yes, I'm in the process of seeing off the last of the Pile-ups! She'll be wearing a set of R888 boots very soon if Camskill continue to give them away, like they are at the moment! White 1.4SS
Sheds Moderator
I would buy a cambemt from any reputable factor. I'd like it to be branded "Gates" for choice. The tensioner would stay on provided the bearing checked out OK.
Stationary M25 Traveller
Thanks for that BOS. Redline seem to be the best price from all those I have asked. (PS: still don't know how tyres fit in to this topic ) ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... oilyhands
If you have a manual tensioner ensure that you go for a Gates (or Piper) belt for a VVC, you can then be sure you get the wider belt. Oily BTW I stock belts and tensioners...
Stationary M25 Traveller
Thanks Oilyhands. Lord Lucan - absolutely nothing - except it applies to all of us really ! ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... Stationary M25 Traveller
Offered a belt from local motor spares shop - the manual gives the right spec for 2002 1.8VVC but the belt is 23mm wide. The original 'Gates' Rover belt is 26mm wide. ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... Stationary M25 Traveller
Changing the belt seems too easy (in theory). So- the gap under the starter can be used to lock the flywheel/starter gear with a screwdriver to loosen the front pulley bolt. How about tightening it (as the flywheel/starter will obviously want to turn the other way) - or will handbrake/in gear provide enough resistance to apply required torque to bolt ? ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... Stationary M25 Traveller
BTTT - for all those back to work today (and wondering what they are supposed to be doing there !) ****************** And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking... Sheds Moderator
Changing the belt isn't exactly childs' play SM25T. I've done it and it's OK if you take your time but bear in mind what can go wrong. (If you don't already know what can go wrong then maybe changing a cambelt is pushing your luck a little for the moment.) OTOH if you understand what's going on then yes, it's a DIY proposition with just one special tool required. I would as stated take the time to get the DTIs out (knowing then what I know now and all that...) and time in the cams exactly if possible, or at least try Oily's "one tooth out then check the lift at TDC" method. This is CERTAINLY off manual though and you REALLY have to know your onions to be doing this.
