Support Team c7trp Posted March 20, 2007 Support Team Share Posted March 20, 2007 This evening I'm going to slacken the adjuster on my steering rack as the steering is quite tight. Whilst I'm doing this, is it worth taking the adjuster right out and pressing some grease in? I was going to take the gaiters off and grease the exposed bits of the rack (on lock) whilst I was at it. Is this a sensible plan, or is totally removing the adjuster a bad idea?
Area Representative Crudders Posted March 20, 2007 Area Representative Share Posted March 20, 2007 Tim - it shouldn't be necessasry to take the adjuster out. I backed mine off slightly as it felt a little tight and notchy. I marked the adjuster and the locknut with a permanent marker to record the original position and only needed to back off about 3mm on the circumference to significantly free up the movement. I sought advice on here regarding lubrication and (as is often the way) received a wide range of advice. I ended up lubricating mine from the ends via the gaiters with a mix of grease and heavy gear oil, which made a lovely slippery goo Crudders
shn7
Make sure you're checking for tightness with the front wheels off the ground. Steve. West Sussex AO Not forgetting Percy the Polar Bear
