Rear dampers

Recommended Posts

Just checked out my car for the MOT on wednesday and found that the rear AVO dampers are leaking again!, the first set lasted 1500 miles! but since the rebuild the have lasted slightly longer

What are the options? AVOs - steel £70 each

AVOs Alloy £110 each

Nitrons £400 each

Billies, but would also need adjustable platforms

Any suggestions?

Well they should be at 4 times the cost, but are they four times better?

I don't think I can justify that amount of money and I am not sure they do them for the pre 96 cars which have the shorter dampers.

Sorry that excuse won't wash - they are available for pre and post '96 cars 😬. See here.

A set of 4 is about £1200 including springs which is less than twice the cost of the alloy bodies Avos kit from Freestyle.

Mine's a 1995 car. Shorter dampers.

They are not 4 times the cost . they are about 500 a pair. which is about 2.5 times the price. Penske or ohlins are 400 each.

If you have boken a couple of cheaper sets then maybe it would be worth looking to upgrade a bit??

I struggled to justify it at first. but they are better. *thumbup*

in an ideal world I would love some nitrons but

Why would I want to buy new springs?,

I can't see a cost for nitrons without springs.

I am afaid that there is a huge differance between paying £200 for 2 new AVOs (supplied direct from AVO) and paying £1200 for 4 dampers and 4 springs when I have 2 perfectly good dampers and 4 perfectly good springs.

so as I am struggling to afford the expence of AVOs of the cheaper dampers on the market is there any alternative to AVOs

regards

Simon

I believe Leda have ceased trading, so probably rules them out unless there's any unsold stock about.

I looked at some Protech at a show, they looked well made, but cannot vouch for their performance.

I've fitted Protech to the rear of my Vauxhall race car, replacing the original Vx race Bilsteins. They need to be set soft. I am very happy with there performance to date (1 season).

Bought them direct, just give your required dimensions and end requirements.

Leda down the tubes - that's a big shock and very sad ☹️. They were a very nice bunch of people to do business with. This is what their website says:

With regret, the company has ceased trading and cannot therefore accept any further orders.

Efforts are being made to find a way to recommence business and a further announcement will be made as soon as possible.

If you have an queries, please contact sales@leda.com

the springs are different diameters on the Nitrons vs AVO's......

2.5 time more expensive and yes they are 2.5 times better *thumbup*

faster times on the circuits

better chassis control on turn in

better traction

better ride on road with no "float"

hopefully better consistencey over life

and they have gold bits so they must be faster *tongue*
