Pierre Gillet
Has anybody some experience to share relative to these new wheels. How does they compare with one-piece wheels in terms of weight and price? Air-tightness could cause a problem? Usable on open roads as opposed to track use? I like the design that would fit my 40th Anniversary better than the R500 wheeels. Cheers, Pierre
Rob Walker
Pierre, I presume you mean the ones on offer from Superlite wheels, well they are lighter than the same sized cast rims and can be bent if you curb your car, good news is the bent bit can be replaced. I visited the shop a couple of weeks ago and their rims looked very nice and well made. Not as light as the R500 MBR rims mind.
Pierre Gillet
Thanks Rob. Yes, I meant the Superlite advert on the last page of LF. Good to know that they can be bent...Really means that they are for competition use. I assume the R500 wheels bear the same constraints. How much do they sell? Rob Walker
Yes I would treat the MBR rims carefully also. Mr Barnaby told me that he uses a harder aluminium for his rims so they may be a little stronger than the Superlites split rims. I found that they both cost roughly the same so I would go for the MBR if it was a straight choice.
