Troubled by rusty nuts ! New question re rear hubs ... !!

Well - two days now, with no response from CC.

The reason I paid a premium price and bought from them was to avoid the risks of dealing with problems on a car if a private buy. *rolleyes*

  • 3 months later...

Rear discs finally removed from hubs thanks to flames, hammer and chisel, plusgas and SL's trusty 12V impact wrench.

Problem was waaaaaaaay too much threadlock on the thin-headed bolts - had stuck the head and the shank of the bolt to the disc !!!!!

All stripped out now - have decided to replace the discs, pads and bolts while it is all apart.

Just hope CC have the parts in stock tomorrow.

All back together again *thumbup*

Anyone know what the typical clearance is between the wafer-thin headed bolts (rear disc to hub) and the bearing carrier flange on the deDion ?

Asked CC Parts if ok to fit a thin washer behind the bolt heads to help prevent them corroding on to disc face - they said ok.

On the offside - no problems at all.

On the nearside - the lightest of scraping sounds - almost certainly betwixt bolt heads and bearing carrier - not sure if it is the flat top of the bolt, or one or two of the corners of the hex head ?

If it is this, I suppose it won't do it for long. It really is a light scrape.

Or - should I pull it all apart again and remove the washers ?

... and before you ask - the brake pads and calipers were well out of reach of the disc !

Answered my own question - looked inside the offending article from under car, with LED torch - bolt heads and washers all clear the bearing carrier flange. So they are not fouling.

Still puzzled as to what could have been lightly scraping without brake pads or calipers fitted ? Assume once hub nuts tightened, it must pull bearings/drive shafts into right place, so nothing there to foul.

Now pads are in (and pistons wound back), they scrape noisily against the new discs, so think I will just take it for a drive tonight (dry at last ??), and see what happens !

Finally got a drive tonight, as the sky cleared and the sun was setting.

Wonderful - it all works !!

A nice way to blow the PLC-nonsense office cobwebs out of the hair (did someone say hair *rolleyes*)

All ok for the 7 to take us to the 7/7/7 wedding tomorrow *smile*
