Ring Gear adrift

Hi

My caterham wouldn't start, first thought was that the infamous K starter problems had recurred despite a new Magneton starter.

However I just found out that the ring gear has parted company with the flywheel.

I assume the only waty to gain access for this is to remove the engine.

Can anybody confirm this or if the answer is not removal suggest alternative approaches would work.

Car is Caterham K VVc with 5 speed box.

I have successfully re-seated the ring gear on an Escort RWD thru the starter aperture, I then arc welded about 12 points around the circumference, it never gave trouble again. Getting it off would be fun though. If you fit a new one, drill six holes around the circumference in the join between the flywheel and ring gear, tap these and screw/loctite in some hasrdened M6 or M8 grubscrews.
