Neil MH
Following the recent separate posting about Toyo R888 tyres, some questions came up about the sidewalls, weight and dimensions. I posed these questions to the Technical and Motorsport Engineer at Toyo and this is what he said in reply: “Regarding sidewall stiffness the R888 has very good reputation for being a progressive tyre. It does not break away suddenly, it lets you know, this ability possibly gives the impression of having a softer sidewall. I do not have any weight data on competitor products but I have attached the tech spec on the R888 (see below). For your information we are introducing a super soft compound especially for sprint/hillclimb in four sizes: 185/60R13 205/60R13 195/50R15 205/50R15 These will be available mid May. These are extracts from the technical data spreadsheet: Firstly for 185/60/13- V rated: Weight = 7.9kg Tread Depth = 5.0mm Inflated Dimension – diameter 549mm and width 188mm Loaded dimensions – static radius 250mm , static width 205mm, dynamic radius 266mm Revs per mile = 961 Rolling circumference = 1674 Permitted rim = 5.0 to 6.5 And now for 185/60/14 – V rated Weight = 8.2kg Tread Depth = 5.0mm Inflated Dimension – diameter 574mm and width 188mm Loaded dimensions – static radius 263mm , static width 205mm, dynamic radius 279mm Revs per mile = 919 Rolling circumference = 1751 Permitted rim = 5.0 to 6.5 If anyone would like this data for any other size R888, please let me know and I could email it to you - or I could put the stats on here. Neil MH
Softer compounds are going to be available from mid-May. These were described as "super soft" and being suitable for sprinting and hillclimbing. However, I'm not aware of any others. I could try and find out more from the contact at Toyo? caterhamnut
Cheers guys - thats fine - I didn't want 'supersoft' for our use, but sounds like at the moment there is only one choice anyway, which is fine. www.mycaterham.com here Videos here 98,000 miles -1st 1.6k Supersport, '95 Motor Show car
