Steering Rack Adjustment

Is the steering rack adjustable and how is it done. The problem I am facing is a strange klonky noise when turning to the right which get caused by the rod that is turned with the wheel pivots in out +/- 3 mm causing the steering wheel boss to hit the upper column bearing saying klonk. Can this be solved by adjusting the steering rack by loosening the nut on top and tighten the cylinder type of bolt a little relocking it again with the large nut and how far can it be adjusted. Will this eliminate the free play of the rod with the small sprocket.

Anyone some experience with this.

If I remember correctly the damper button should have 0.002 / 0.004 endfloat. This needs to be measured along the complete used length of the rack in order to avoid preload (binding). The damper spring will keep the contact of the pinion and rack only to alieviate rack knock (not really relevant to a Sevenwink.gif.

The bottom line, as correctly mention previously, is to avoid binding.

By the way, one of the best rack lubricants is EP140 - yes 140, at about a 1/4 of a pint.
