Mick Day
Old technology, plenty of potential for the gasket to shed bits into the oil system: has anyone come up with a more modern longer lasting solution?
CageyH
Yes, it's called a Zetec or a Duratec Only dead fish go with the flow....
Mick Day
*idea*Zetec or Duratech won't fit. Has to be a flat 4 engine.

6speedmanual
Hi Mick Clean your mating faces. Make a bead of RTV Gasket Sealer (Granville or the like) on the place the cork gasket sits. Press the covers into place a lightly nip down the fixings. Been using this method for years on my old engine with pressed steel rocker covers. Works very well on sump too. When you want the covers off, just remove the fixings and prise off with a screwdriver. Welcome to a new oil-leak-free world!! There's no such thing as too much bhp per ton ! 6SpeedManual
DaveMorris
DOn't forget - cork for pressed steel rocker covers but paper/card for Ali rocker covers (as the mating surface is thinner and so cuts through the cork ones), [thinks - might be teaching granny to suck eggs here ], Dave X-flow(er) powered
CageyH
Falt 4 as in VW aircooled flat 4? If so, have a look at the empi bolt on rocker covers, that use a rubber seal. Only dead fish go with the flow....
Mick Day
Thanks for that Cagey, just seen that Empi do neoprene gaskets for the clip on covers as well. I'll see whether VW Heritage can supply.
CageyH
I used the bolt on covers, as I found they were easy to fit, and kinder to the seal. They are not expensive, or at least they were not when I bought mine. Only dead fish go with the flow....
