Cat or Not to Cat

Recommended Posts

I have a new SLR which i have just finished building. It has and MBE ECU and Roller barrels and has paseed the SVA.

Do i remove the Cat and fit the 4-1 exhast adapter or leave the system alone?

How much extra ooomph do you get with its removal next to the cost for the adapter.

Just need a dry road to try the machine now!

The Cat-replacement pipe for the SLR is a 4-2-1. It doesn't give any more power really, OK, about 3bhp at max revs, but IMO the advantage is in removing the eyesore that the standard Cat is. It's supposed to iron out a flat spot in the torque curve at around 4000rpm but I replaced mine whilst running the engine in, so I hadn't really had chance to check whether there was a "hole" there or not.

A Cat-replacement pipe doesn't come cheap though. It was about 160 quid if I remember correctly.
