General Info on Engine Management Systems

Recommended Posts

Could anyone point me in the right direction on a publication which covers the basics of modern engine management systems.

Many years ago I used to spend a lot of time repairing, rebuilding, and tuning TR6 and 2.5PI engines which was fun, but involved no computer based management system.

I have owned a VVC for two years now, and would like to understand a bit more about how the various sensors around the engine interact and how they effect the tuning.

Any ideas??????

Haynes have just published a book on this very subject by Dave Walker therefore has quite a bit about Emerald systems but also explains the basics including tuning carbs.

Not got ISBN with me but I think it's called "Engine Management" good starter

Dave Walkers, "Engine Management" is is a great book with easy to understand info. It also has a free CD rom attached so you can 'play' at varying settings for the "Emerald M3D" ecu on a mock Elise & see the results.

On Amazon for about 16ukp I think.

(oh, and of course as he sells this unit (designed by his partner at Emerald, Karl Paton)he knows how to get the results!
