Sump drain plug

Recommended Posts

The seating for the drain plug on my very elderly Xflow is not as good as it used to be and I am not motivated to take off the sump and machine it flat. I have used silicone sealant and hylomar (not at the same time) to make the plug oil-proof with mixed success. Is there anything better available to do the job? The washers I am using are the standard Ford hard nylon jobs. Would something softer or maybe copper be better? Any suggestions gratefully received.

How about a Dowty sealing washer or PTFE tape on the plug (less messy than liquid sealants) I might have a few old Dowty's lying around if you can tell me the OD of the plug. Still the best would be to machine or file/scrape the sump flat.
