Simon.Rogers1
Has anyone fitted a 280mm diameter wheel. Do you need the D shaped one. Are there any other considerations. Edited by - simon.rogers on 29 Nov 2006 08:35:
Rob Walker
Simon the JPE used to come with a 290 as std. My first Seven had a 290 momo, it was no problem but I prefer the 260mm. So 280 should be ok. Rob Edited by - Rob Walker on 29 Nov 2006 10:02:
Ferrino
And I think the Original Lotus 7 came with a 450mm big-red-mother of a wheel! Something to do with Chapman's affection for buses. Yamaham @ Keevil
Simon.Rogers1
Rob I'd like to stay with 260 also but now that I have mounted the AIM logger/display into the new dash I can not see the shift lights and I had no tolerance to move it. The extra 10mm will allow me to see the lights.
Sootysevener
Simon I fitted a Momo 280 D shaped wheel a little over a year ago to replace a 300 mm Motolita. Its marginally harder on the wrists at low speed but otherwise has a great feel. The Alcantara brushes up like suede and I tend to use leather faced winter golf gloves to drive in the winter - very tactile feel The D shape is a bit easier in terms of legroom as I'm over 6 ft and on the lardy side but by far the best option is to go removable wheel as this makes a big difference to getting in and out David 1989 1700XF SS clams with carbon webshots here
S47zzz
ISTR there is a little adjustment in the length of the column, so you might be able to move the wheel closer to the dash to help with viewing the display. Area Representative Richard Price Posted November 28, 2006 Area Representative Share Posted November 28, 2006 Simon, my wheel is a 280mm MOMO, and is round! Sorry, I miss read the question - I have no idea what a "Sreering Wheel" is 😬
Ferrino
Which AIM display did you go for Simon? I am using the Mychron 3 Gold and can see all of the display with a 260mm MOMO (circular not D-shaped). Yamaham @ Keevil
DaveMorris
I hope that there's other people around out there who are wondering the same as me - Where do you measure the diameter ? I.D. of the rim O.D. of the rim or Diameter at the middle of rim ? Dave M X-flow(er) powered
Simon.Rogers1
Ferrino - Mychron 3 Gol/XG/Log Its probably due to the seating position. If I slink down a touch I can see the lights. Everything else is viewable. The screen is now cut in and mounted behind the carbon dash. I have run all season with it mounted above the scuttle which was great to look at when driving but looked ugly. So its now between 2 chassis tubes and can not be moved. Therefore new wheel. I wanted to change to suede anyway so The problem I had was I couldn't mount it in front of the dash as it interfeared with the paddle shift. Every time I came to a tight corner it would have changed gear by itself. Edited by - Simon.Rogers on 29 Nov 2006 08:41:

Simon.Rogers1
Thanks Martin but mine has holes in it from the paddles. I've also just sold it to Kevin for his SV. Ta muchly though
Ferrino
Oh cool - it's a great unit isn't it? It definitely looks best recessed into the dash (so that it is flush with the dash), though I found I had to grind a wee bit off the dash tubes to fit it in without the fear of vibrations wrecking the internals! Sootysevener
Dave Dimensions are across the OD od the widest part of the rim. My D wheel is 280 across the rounded element but only 260 across the flat section David 1989 1700XF SS clams with carbon webshots here
Slipper man
My R500 has a conventional (round) 290mm Momo. Works just fine for me
