catastrada
I just bought a second hand R300 with the 160bhp 1800 Xpower engine. The car has the "R500 exhaust" that contains a catalytic convertor, a titanium casing, and a 4-1 collector with larger bore piperwork. Does anybody knows how many more bhp are produced thanks to this exhaust (if any)? Does anybody have a dyno of this configuration (engine + exhaust)? Delberts Wallet
That is the standard Zorst for the R300 isn't it. I thought the only difference was that the R500 silencer is Titanium Gareth Blue and Carbon 6 Speed Supersport with new wheels
Peter T
Are you sure it is the R500 exhaust? Do you have the de-cat pipe and silencer? If it is fitted with the standard non mappable ecu then no gains will be had. If it has been mapped with an MBE it might yeild another 10-15 BHp higher up the rev range, but it also looses torque as it is a 4-1 system. I have some results that show the difference between a R500 4-1 system and a 4-2-1. An exhaust change is only as good as the mapping structure it was done with, changing it alone will gain nothing in terms of costs. catastrada
Is the big bore 4-1 really the standard on an R300?

catastrada
Peter, With this picture here can you say for sure what exhaust it is ?
Peter T
Yes that is the current new style Front mounted cat system. It was based on the same diameter primaries of the R500 unit but has the cat seperate, while the old style has an intergrated cat and silencer. Slider7
Ditch the catalytic convertor and fit a de-cat pipe ... should release a few more BHP's ... but hold on to it for MOT-time That's what I've done 😬 “Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away” Antoine de Saint Exupery
Wight Skipper
I have the larger bore R500 'Quiet' exhaust without the cat fitted on my Supersport-R which has the same engine as the R300. I don't think it gives any more power, it just keeps the noise down a bit. That was the information given by Caterham.
