CageyH
☹️ It had some play, so failed the MOT. I adjusted it up to remove the play, and now it is too stiff. How much play is allowable? Anybody have a nice cheap 8% rack, as they have upgraded to a 22%? As I am going widetrack later this year, is it worth waiting abd getting a proper widetrack rack, or do the widetrack extensions look ok on a standard rack? Only dead fish go with the flow.... Rob Walker
Pump it full of cv joint grease and back off the pinion clamp until its not too stiff. The racks are infinately adjustable shouldn`t be knackered. Its a trade off between having the pinion pushed too tight into the rack and having it too slack , ie out of mesh and sloppy/play. Jack the front of the car up and gradually adjust 1/4 turn at a time until you get the mesh right.

Archie Procter
this may seem like an obvious thing, but can't you 'unadjust' it?
Myles
Try removing the lock nut, the central cylinder and then the 'nylon' or metal puck. If you can't get a replacement, at least turn it through 180 degrees to see if the play is reduced somewhat... 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 Alcester Racing 7s Equipe™ 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 🙆🏻 Alcester-Racing-Sevens.com
CageyH
Rob, Myles. Thanks for the advice. Done as suggested and it is better. Just have to see if the MOT tester approves of it now. Only dead fish go with the flow....
