Area Representative Richard Price Posted September 20, 2006 Area Representative Share Posted September 20, 2006 I've just aquired a bargain on Ebay ❗ I've bought a pair of DeDion ears. Or, more to the point, I thought they were a bargain, but they're not the same as my current ears. I'm now a little puzzled what they are. See here My original on the right. The caliper fixings are much closer to the axle centre than my original standard caliper ears. It looks like some material has beed ground away to reduce the height of the caliper mounting lugs, but they did not start life as standard ears and then have the caliper fixings redrilled (there would still be evidence of the original holes). What are the ears for big brakes like? What are they? If anyone knows what they are and can identify them, I may have a bargain to pass on (they're no use to me 😳) Edited by - richard price on 20 Sep 2006 09:04:
Simon.Rogers1
Now come on Richard trying to pass on a somewhat secondhand ear that quite clearly has been "crack" tested 😳 I don't have time now but will check out my originals for big brakes this evening. Area Representative Richard Price Posted September 20, 2006 Author Area Representative Share Posted September 20, 2006 Simon, It's not a crack! It's most definitely BROKEN ❗ I thought I'd found some cheap spares, just in case I brush the armco at Loton Park again 😬
rgrigsby
The ears for big brakes are completly differnet as the caliper mounting holes are on the top so it's not a set of those I'm afraid. TBH I've never seen one that looks like the one in that picture. Rob G www.SpeedySeven.com

Englishmaninwales
just a thought, the very earliest dedion set up had drum brakes for a short period.

Graham Perry
Sorry Richard not see that type before. Its quite possible that the seller may not have known that they were strange. Edited by - Graham Perry on 20 Sep 2006 21:39:
Simon.Rogers1
Richard My ears are the same as your originals. I have the big brakes.
Area Representative Richard Price Posted September 20, 2006 Author Area Representative Share Posted September 20, 2006 Graham, Yes, I don't think the seller knew what they were. If they were right, they would have been a real bargain ❗ Simon, I thought the big brakes were fixed to the calipers with vertical pins into the top of the ear, like this here 🤔
