Different types of DeDion ears

I've just aquired a bargain on Ebay

I've bought a pair of DeDion ears.

Or, more to the point, I thought they were a bargain, but they're not the same as my current ears.

I'm now a little puzzled what they are. See here My original on the right.

The caliper fixings are much closer to the axle centre than my original standard caliper ears.

It looks like some material has beed ground away to reduce the height of the caliper mounting lugs, but they did not start life as standard ears and then have the caliper fixings redrilled (there would still be evidence of the original holes).

What are the ears for big brakes like?

What are they?

If anyone knows what they are and can identify them, I may have a bargain to pass on (they're no use to me *mad* 😳)

Graham,

Yes, I don't think the seller knew what they were. If they were right, they would have been a real bargain

Simon,

I thought the big brakes were fixed to the calipers with vertical pins into the top of the ear, like this here 🤔
